The Human Race Update

The Human Race (10k) was this past Sunday 8.31.08 the run started at 8.31.08pm It was a great experience! First off, let me tell you I AM SORE! I don't think my body has ever hurt this bad before and in a weird way its a great feeling because it is a reminder of what I accomplished! I am very proud of myself (& my Sis Cyn for doing it- along with her friends big shout out to Jess, David & Jennifer) I did run the whole 6.2 miles stopping only to hydrate. The time when I crossed the finish line was 1hr 17mins but that was not my official time. I will keep you posted on that as soon as I find out. I am looking forward to the race next year and I am determined to run it in under an hour! After the race Kanye West & Common preformed, great show! Here are some pics from the event I will post more as soon as my sis sends them my way.

Before the race started...

The Human Race

I signed up for The Human Race (10k- what the heck am I thinking??) I am so not a runner but it is for a great cause! Every step of the race counts toward 3 charities WWF, Lance Armstrong Foundation & The UN Refugee Foundation. The awesome thing about this race is that it is a woldwide 10k with 25 cities around the world participating! I'm excited about it and at the same time a little nervous. I have been (trying to) training as much as I can and I know this will be a challenge for me. My sister will be joining me as well as some of her friends so I know regardless we will have a good time. I am planning on running as much as possible with minimum walking, I just hope I'm not one of the last to cross the finish line.

After the run, Kanye West will be preforming for the runners! I am looking forward to that! Wish me luck!

P.S. I'm already thinking of signing up for the 5K in town this November. Perhaps this will be a new hobby of mine!

Crafty Chica

If you don't know The Crafty Chica - Kathy Cano Murillo then its about time you did! Kathy is amazing! She is a crafter, writer and she now has a product line at Micheals! I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy at the "Spread the Sparkle Tour" last week at the Micheals in Glendale. Her products are just what we needed! Full of color & glitter. Kathy is a sweetheart and super talented. I can't wait until the next time.

Fairy Jar Class

My first class was this past Sunday and we had a great time! Maya (my first student) created the cutest Fairy jar and she inspired me! She was not scared of embellishments and created the most beautiful and magical little home for her fairy.
Isn't it great? Maya had a great time taking this class and I'm glad she was able to make it because she can now tell you how much fun it is! Below is my lastest creation - the fairy jar I did in class:
What do you think? I ♥ it! I think its my favorite one yet.

Lost in the Depths of the Ocean

Is it weird to say that I had a great weekend when some not so good things happend? First I get stung by a bee at Jesse's baseball game on Saturday, it hurt. Good thing I'm not allergic.
Derek and I spent Sunday at the Redondo Beach Pier It was a beautiful day and I love it there. Reminds me of a happy childhood... lots of happy memories. After a long fun filled day Derek was about to take my picture overlooking the beautiful scenery from the pier when my digital camera some how falls out of my hand, I see it land on the pier and I freeze, thinking that it will come to a dead stop and I will pick it right up. I see it all my head I it played out and it was fine but I didn't count on my camera bouncing off the stupid wood planks off the pier into the obscurity of the water. I didn't know what the hell to do! Did that just seriously happen?? Impossible! But it did and I was sad. I fell bad for having to leave it behind. I kept wishing that the people fishing around the pier would some how hook it and bring it up to me but that didn't happen. My camera was a xmas gift from my sister. This sucks.
Needless to say I don't have any pics to share with you. I got some great ones too of Derek and I eating oysters from the shell and having a nice cold beer but these pictures are now only metal. Shit happens right??

Its Been a Minute...

Hey peeps I haven't had a chance to write life has been super busy! Derek and I are finally moved in to our new place!! Its so cute and we're super happy.

Monday night I went to the American Idol concert Tour with my good friend Ashley (Thanks Erin!) and we had a blast! To be honest I thought it might be a bit cheesey Ashley and I were saying how we thought it would be more of a "variety hour" type of thing but it wasn't and all the Idols were great... now I didn't follow the show so I was pleasently surprised. I didn't get any good pics, we were close but they kept moving around the stage and my pics came out blurry... although I do have this one to share with you:

Dang I look tan!

Tonight is Open House at SCCL and I can't make it. Tomorrow is my little sister's birthday (17!) and we're celebrating tonight. I hope those of you who do go have a great time!!

Much Love.

Blockheads

Yesterday we did our last "mock class" and had a ton of fun with it. Helen taught her portrait window house and it is FABULOUS! I can't wait to show you all pictures. I taught Cyndi, Helen & Jennifer my Blockheads class which involves assemblage, collage & painting. We had fun with this class too- to be honest we have fun with all our classes! I had to laugh when a good friend of mine asked me if I was having fun at "work" Anyways, this class if definitely funky and I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do. My blockhead was 70's inspired, I took ads & prints from magazines of the 70s. Let me know what you think!

This Sunday I am getting together with the other instructors and working on a few more projects, one of them being Helen's portrait window house. I am looking forward to this one! All I know so far is that it involves us having to bringing in personal pictures and I love pictures which means I have tons to look through this Saturday so I can be ready for the class.

Chief Executive Of First Impressions

I haven't had a chance to sit here and "blog" because this full time J-O-B has been a bit busy...Real Estate is not dead people! My comp has been down at work. I was attacked by porn ads!! They freaked me out and no I don't look at porn while at work (it doesn't get THAT boring!) but I do share my comp with a guy ummm leads me to wonder....

Anyways enough of that, on to sometime a little more exciting. Santa Clarita Craft Lab is opening on July 1st yey! The first class I'm teaching will be on July 20th and I will be teaching you how to make Fairy jars! They are very cute and whimsy you will love it so sign up for it! Here is a preview:

Now isn't that cool?? Don't you just want to sign up and take my class?? It will be a lot of fun. I promise! Log on to http://www.santaclaritacraftlab.com/

A couple of weeks ago we (the SSCL instructors) got together to do "mock classes" to practice our teaching skills and you guys I have to tell you these classes are just too much fun! I hope I can sneak my way into some of them!

Here are some pictures of Erin's patchwork painting class - isn't it awesome?? One of my favorites classes so far.

This one was done by Erin... I know she's great!! (above)

This one was created by me! I had never painted before... I was too scared because I thought that It wasn't something I could ever do and look at how cute she turned out?? I am very proud of myself and I can't wait to do another one. Soo many ideas!

This last one above was done by Cyndi and she named her "Sweet Girl"

For some reason I can't upload pics at the moment but I will try again later. The pictures I wanted to share with you are of two other classes being offered at SCCL Birds of a Feather and Softies in Wonderland. Both classes are hand sewn projects - let me tell you this was another thing I thought I couldn't do and again I have surprised myself! I am having so much fun laughing, crafting, hanging out with great friends and finding out how much I can really do! This has truly been a time of self discovery! I will no longer say that I can't do something without first trying and I am going to stop putting limits on myself. NO MAS! (No more!)

Until next time.... One Love

Los Angeles Craft Mafia

Last night I attended my first Los Angeles Craft Mafia meeting at Sinners & Saints Lounge in West LA. I met so many friendly, crafty & funny ladies -I had the best time. Sonya Nimri did a bead demo. You guys have to check out Sonya's page, she has the coolest books out right now! I need to get them so I can make myself one of her cute little scarf tops! http://www.sonyastyle.com/home.php

Above is a picture of Sonya (she's the one wearing that funky blue scarf) teaching us this cool beading technique which is called branching- its soo easy and it all it requires are some funky beads, wire, wire cutters and an imagination-easy enough right? Actually it took Sonya having to explain to me how to twist the wire around the bead about 3 times before I actually got it but you know what they say...3rd times’ a charm...and that's exactly what I made... a necklace charm! haha. I can't wait to to apply what Sonya taught me and make some matching earrings! What do you think?
P.S. Thanks Cyndi for the letting me steal your pictures, another thing I learned from attending this Craft Mafia meeting is to make sure I bring my camera!

Oh and you guys I created a myspace strictly for my crafting so add me http://myspace.com/whimsyamelie

Peace out!

Brainstorming...my wheels are turning!

I had a fabulous weekend and I had a great conversation with a friend who is a muralist and let me tell you that she does amazing work! If you need or have been wanting a mural painted in your house or for your child's room let me know because I have the girl for you! Her name is Jennifer, her creativity expands beyond painting , she also creates beautiful pieces of altered art, jewelry, drawing & more. It was refreshing to talk to someone about "art" it inspired me to brainstorm more classes that I want to teach at Santa Clarita Craft Lab and I think I have a theme going! I will keep you posted!
For the time being I am only teaching classes once a month-maybe twice since I work full time and I have too much to take care of on weekends, hopefully this won't be for much longer and I can dedicate a little more time to this.
Pictures will follow soon I promise! I need to give you guys an idea of all the wonderful things we'll be doing at SCCL and of things I've done. be patient with me!

New

So I am trying this "blog" thing because I want to keep you guys updated on this really cool & exiting thing that I am going to be a part of but first let me tell you that I am having a heck of a time with this thing!! Cyndi Garcia is opening her studio and I am going to be one of the instructors! We created the schedule of the next 3 months and I will be teaching different projects, anywhere from working with tin to image transfer and other mix media projects. I can't wait to get started!
