Last night I attended my first Los Angeles Craft Mafia meeting at Sinners & Saints Lounge in West LA. I met so many friendly, crafty & funny ladies -I had the best time. Sonya Nimri did a bead demo. You guys have to check out Sonya's page, she has the coolest books out right now! I need to get them so I can make myself one of her cute little scarf tops! http://www.sonyastyle.com/home.php
Above is a picture of Sonya (she's the one wearing that funky blue scarf) teaching us this cool beading technique which is called branching- its soo easy and it all it requires are some funky beads, wire, wire cutters and an imagination-easy enough right? Actually it took Sonya having to explain to me how to twist the wire around the bead about 3 times before I actually got it but you know what they say...3rd times’ a charm...and that's exactly what I made... a necklace charm! haha. I can't wait to to apply what Sonya taught me and make some matching earrings! What do you think?
P.S. Thanks Cyndi for the letting me steal your pictures, another thing I learned from attending this Craft Mafia meeting is to make sure I bring my camera!
I had a fabulous weekend and I had a great conversation with a friend who is a muralist and let me tell you that she does amazing work! If you need or have been wanting a mural painted in your house or for your child's room let me know because I have the girl for you! Her name is Jennifer, her creativity expands beyond painting , she also creates beautiful pieces of altered art, jewelry, drawing & more. It was refreshing to talk to someone about "art" it inspired me to brainstorm more classes that I want to teach at Santa Clarita Craft Lab and I think I have a theme going! I will keep you posted! For the time being I am only teaching classes once a month-maybe twice since I work full time and I have too much to take care of on weekends, hopefully this won't be for much longer and I can dedicate a little more time to this.
Pictures will follow soon I promise! I need to give you guys an idea of all the wonderful things we'll be doing at SCCL and of things I've done. be patient with me!
So I am trying this "blog" thing because I want to keep you guys updated on this really cool & exiting thing that I am going to be a part of but first let me tell you that I am having a heck of a time with this thing!! Cyndi Garcia is opening her studio and I am going to be one of the instructors! We created the schedule of the next 3 months and I will be teaching different projects, anywhere from working with tin to image transfer and other mix media projects. I can't wait to get started!
